Why Education Comes First

Handing someone a financial tool without the education to go with it isn't opportunity — it's risk. That's the belief behind CeloHT's first and most important design decision: every program starts with a classroom, not an app.

The pattern we're correcting

Financial inclusion efforts often fail at the last mile. Not because the technology doesn't work, but because it arrives without the trust, language, and understanding a community needs to use it safely. We've seen this pattern play out in Haiti before — projects built by outsiders, rarely explained in Haitian Creole, and almost never accompanied by a real, sustained education effort.

What "education first" actually means in practice

• No one gets a Valora wallet demo before completing our basic financial literacy module.
• Blockchain and Web3 fundamentals are taught in plain language, without unexplained jargon.
• Seed-phrase security is covered explicitly, before a participant's first live transaction, not after.
• Risk awareness — volatility, common scams — is reinforced on an ongoing basis, not a one-time warning.

Why this is slower, and why that's fine

Education-first is a slower rollout than "download the app and go." We think that trade-off is correct. A participant who understands why they're protecting a seed phrase is safer than one who was just told to.
